The Dog, the Night, and the Knife

December 1st — December 22nd, 2019

Performances at Fulton Street Collective, an industrial loft in West Town.

“Don’t come any closer. I’ve got the knife now.”

After a dinner with friends, M finds himself in a nightmarish world he doesn’t recognize. The clocks are all stuck at 5:05am, everyone he meets has the same two faces, wolves roam the city, the hospital is filled with sand, and people are eating each other to stay alive. Is tenderness possible in a world that’s given itself over to unfettered hunger?

REVIEWS

The youthful Silencio troupe stage this literal dog-eat-dog tale with elegant, imagination-rich simplicity, reminiscent of Kafka at his most enigmatic…those open to the offbeat and experimental will find much to absorb and ponder in this audience-challenging play. With this production, the unheralded Silencio company announces that it deserves to be heard.” — New City Stage

“Silencio…takes on an interpretation with the weight of a fever dream, the one after a panic attack…It’s a metaphorical performance relying on the echoes of a warehouse room, scenic designs that feel raw enough to keep you grounded. A three person show, 88 minutes of prose, fear and anger.” — Hooligan Magazine

“Three actors tear through this Kafka inspired diatribe as if each word is a matter of life and death. There’s an intensity that becomes harbored onto you and it’s hard to shake when you depart into the dark shadows of night. Every beat heightens anticipation and the mesmerizing lighting works seamlessly in conjunction with accelerating the story.” - Chicago Theatre Triathlon
